Nick Margiotta CIT International Board of Directors
Nick Margiotta is the Crisis Intervention Team Training Coordinator for the Community Relations Bureau of the Phoenix Police Department where he has been a Police Officer since 1996. As the Crisis Intervention Team Training Program Coordinator he has provided training to approximately 1000 Officers from more than 20 Police Departments. These trainings included Patrol, Supervisor Retreat, Advanced Officer Training, In-Service, Universities, various City Departments, Professional Associations, and police departments from within Maricopa county, in-state and out of state. He has also facilitated, presented, and developed curricula for various valley police agencies, students, role-players, etc. and has provided training to a variety of community service provider organizations and community partners to improve interactions with law-enforcement.
Nick Margiotta’s dedication to collaboration and partnerships as the key to improving his community’s response to persons in crisis is demonstrated by the many community oriented programs he has developed. He is the Co-Founder of Downtown Homeless Outreach & Diversion Programs, (Connection-to-Care) and Strategic Care Teams, regularly utilizing his relationships with various internal and external partnerships. He participated in direct outreach to homeless individuals for approximately nine years, mentored by Southwest Behavioral Services’ PATH Team. He developed and piloted a “Housing First” outreach and housing program in the Downtown Phoenix, including providing wrap-around support services, and serving as a H.U.D. Homeless Street Count Coordinator. He additionally developed and piloted a Jail Re-entry program for chronically homeless, mentally ill individuals.
Nick forged strong relationships with several Mental Health Providers, Substance Abuse Services, Outreach Organizations, Downtown Business Associations, Religious-based providers, and various City Departments and working collaboratively with them as well as law enforcement partners, he developed and implemented several community based programs/events related to behavioral health issues. (i.e. Street Count, Flu Shot Event, Summer Respite/Heat Relief, ASU Forums, etc.) He coordinated “Community Dialogues” involving law enforcement, consumers, family members and providers of behavioral health services in an effort to improve relations and reduce barriers. He also developed numerous protocols and services, with the behavioral health system, to streamline service to law-enforcement. Facilitate regular meetings with Crisis System Service CEOs and Medical Directors to review service standards and coordination of community Crisis Services for law-enforcement.
A board member, or member, of countless community organizations, Nick is a Founding Board Member of Magellan Health Services of Arizona’s Governance Board, and a Founding Member of Maricopa County Regional Homeless Court Steering Committee.
Among his awards and honors, Nick Margiotta was awarded the City of Phoenix Employee Excellence Award in 2004 for the “Connection to Care” program which he co-founded.
